3 Essequibo Coast Men fined $150,000 over traffic-related offences

Three men of Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) were fined on Wednesday when they appeared at the Anna Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir on separate traffic-related charges under the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02.
In the first matter, 22-year-old labourer Anil Mahase of Devonshire Castle, Essequibo Coast, was charged with failing to have an identification mark (rear). The offence occurred on February 1, at La Bella Alliance Public Road, Essequibo Coast. The charge was laid under Section 13 of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act.

Mahase pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him and was fined $100,000, in default of three months’ imprisonment.
In a separate case, 29-year-old labourer Shawn John of Lima Sand, Essequibo Coast, was charged with refusing to provide a breath specimen for a breath alcohol test. The offence occurred on May 17 at the Lima Sand Access Road. He was charged under Section 39B (5) of the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act. John also pleaded guilty and was fined $25,000, in default of three months’ imprisonment.
In the third matter, 26-year-old operator Fabian Williams Wolfe of Dryshore, Essequibo Coast, faced a similar charge of refusing to provide a breath specimen for a breath alcohol test. The offence occurred on May 22 at Cotton Field Public Road. He was charged under the same section of the Act. Wolfe pleaded guilty and was fined $25,000, in default of three months’ imprisonment.
