3rd motorcyclist in Berbice fatal smash-up identified
Three days after Police reported that a motorcyclist rode away from an accident along the Number 51 Public Road in which 21-year-old Devindra Kumar of Kilcoy Squatting Area, Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), that person has been identified.
The motorcyclist has been identified as an 18-year-old of Persaud Street, Rose Hall Town, Corentyne, Berbice, who rode away from the scene after running over Kumar.
On Sunday last, the teen was riding motorcycle CG 7601 while a 24-year-old man, also of Kilcoy, was riding motorcycle CG 9278.
Police said the three motorcycles were proceeding north along the western driving lane at a fast pace, when Kumar, who was riding in front, removed his hand from the handle and turned his head, looking backwards.
He then lost control and fell onto the road surface where he rolled a further 100 feet.
The teen, who was behind, ran over Kumar, and he lost control of his bike and fell onto the road surface.
Motorcycle CG 9278, which was ridden by the 24-year-old man then collided with Kumar’s motorcycle, causing the rider to fall into a nearby trench.
Kumar was picked up by public-spirited citizens in an unconscious condition and taken to the Skeldon Public Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The suspect was arrested and his motorcycle was lodged at the Rose Hall Police Outpost for inspection. Investigations are ongoing. (G9)
