4 homeless after Berbice fire

…arson suspected

Four persons are now homeless after a fire on Friday afternoon completely destroyed a two-storey building at Enfield, East Bank Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).

Haresh Mangru said he was at his farm, which is situated a short distance away, and at about 16:30h he heard shouts of “fire” and looked up and saw smoke in the air.
The 25-year-old explained that he rushed home but by that time the entire building was engulfed.
A fire response team from the New Amsterdam Fire Service subsequently arrived but the entire building had already burnt to the ground.
Reports are that a 22-year-old man who goes by the name “Baby” was seen setting fire to the building. Police have since arrested the suspect.
Mangru lived in the upper flat along with his wife and brother and the suspect lived in the lower flat. An investigation has been launched. (G4)
