Home News 4 homeless after fire guts Ruimveldt home
A fire of unknown origin has completely razed the upper flat of a two-storey wooden building at the corner of Spurwing Drive and Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown, in the wee hours of Sunday.
The fire reportedly started at about 01:30h in a bedroom on the upper flat of the home but quickly spread.
At the time of the fire, the occupants of the home were asleep but were suddenly awakened by a strange noise emanating from one of the bedrooms. This was followed by the scent of smoke and upon checking, they saw the room was on fire.
Without hesitation, the occupants of the house ran out of the house and raised an alarm. They were unable to salvage any household items.
The fire tenders arrived at the scene about 10 minutes after the blaze started and quickly began working on dousing the flames.
The fire tenders managed to contain the flames to the upper flat of the building. The house is owned by Sybil Baird. An investigation has been launched into the cause of the fire.
