50-year-old man who robbed woman caught at roadblock
Quick action by the Police has led to the arrest of a man who had robbed a woman at her home at Moblissa Highway in Linden, Region 10.
Reports are that, at Chiney Road, Moblissa Highway Linden on Tuesday at around 13:12h, Police arrested a 51-year-old male during a roadblock exercise put into effect after he had robbed a 50-year-old businesswoman.
According to Police, the woman was robbed of $45,000 in cash, a gold wedding ring valued $70,000, a gold finger ring with a white stone valued $40,000, and a Samsung J2 cellular phone valued $45,000.
Police have said that the victim was in her home, and as she opened the door to go outside to do her laundry, she was confronted by the man, who was armed with a knife. The man grabbed her by the neck, and while pointing the knife in her face, said, “I want the money, or I will kill you.”
The victim told Police that she became fearful for her life, and handed over her money to the suspect, who then pulled off her rings from her fingers. The suspect then began demanding more money, but when she insisted that that was all she had, he snatched her phone while she managed to run out of the yard and raise an alarm.
The Police were summoned, but the suspect had escaped. They then set up a roadblock, and the fleeing suspect was apprehended in a hire car.
A search was conducted and the stolen items were found in his possession, along with $2900 cash. He has been taken into custody.
The articles were shown to the victim, and she has identified them as her property. (G9)
