Hussain hails MACORP Open as one of the best for 2018

The 13th annual Machinery Corporation of Guyana Limited’s (MACORP’s) Open was hailed as one of the best tournaments of the year by Best Gross winner and Lusignan Golf Club President (LGC), Aleem Hussain.
More than 50 golfers took to the Greens on Saturday to celebrate one of the most sponsored tournaments on the LGC calendar. Golfers continued to endure weekly tournaments, as the Greens were flocked with players and caddies alike during Saturday afternoon’s proceedings.

Hussain, who dominated the Championship/A-Flight, hit a Gross 79 and a Net 70; while overall winner, Bholaram Deo, finished with a Best Net score of 66 and an overall gross of 88, as he won top spot in the three flights.
A number of high-profile golfers, including 9-time Open champ Avinash Persaud, former Open ladies champ Jooan Deo, and Shanella Webster, along with a few of the MACORP executives, played out of their skins.
Hussain said the course was seemingly more difficult than in previous weeks. He dubbed it a bit tougher to play on.
MACORP Head Guillermo Escarraga, who dominated the tournament last year, was not as fortunate this year, as he found stiff competition gunning for his title. Hussain said the reason he was able to play through a back niggle and keep himself fresh for the game was due to the professionalism shown by the sponsors; who facilitated the entire event, leaving the LGC executives with more time to focus on the game.
Hussain humorously thanked the MACORP team for shouldering the responsibility of the tournament in regard to food, drinks, trophies and advertising of their new line of machinery equipment. He said he was impressed by how the course was transformed ahead of the competition, adding that to bring the heavy-duty machines just to have them be a part of the company’s scenery was costly to and from.
Following the presentation on Saturday, Escarraga again pledged the company’s support to the expansion of golf, going forward. Escarraga also said MACORP was committed to finishing the LGC rehabilitation project. The Machinery Corporation have already donated millions in their machines for the revamping of the entire course, and the CEO said that they were fixed on ensuring the home of golf in Guyana was to that of international standards. Meanwhile, golf action continues this coming weekend with the Massy Microsoft Open set to be officially launched during the week. (Clifton Ross)
