Lodge trounce Marian Academy as Milo continues

– Annandale, President’s College secure wins

Seasoned campaigners and old rivals Lodge and Annandale Secondary led the charge on Sunday as the Milo Under-18 Football tournament continued with four games.
While there were emphatic victories, the day of school football action did not go without a stiff encounter, as St. Joseph High and South Ruimveldt Secondary

played to a draw in the first game.
Although it isn’t his sport of choice, Warren Williams looked as good on the football field as he does on the hockey pitch, beginning St. Joseph’s campaign with a goal in the 4th minute. St. Joseph’s were able to hold on to their lead until the 27th, when Christopher Bovell levelled the scores.
Williams played hero again with a goal scored two minutes later. However, Godfrey Weekes shattered all of St. Joseph’s hopes in the 40th by equalising once again. Regulation time eventually expired, and the teams had to share points.
Game two resulted in another win for the East Coast-based Annandale Secondary, keeping their record clean. Colin Henriques was the first to register a goal in the encounter, but Jenon Persaud of Canje Secondary equalised two minutes later. Seconds before the half was called, Omari Glasow found the back of the net for Annandale’s second, and Jerome Harrigon scored in the 67th for Annandale’s 3-1 win.
Lodge Secondary took advantage of Marian Academy in the third game, scoring nine goals against a hapless opponent. A hat trick from Dorwin George, two from Marcus Bamfield, one each from Rasheed Evans, Curt Edwards and Shemroy Myers, and an own goal were responsible for the fireworks show that Lodge put on.
Looking as though the game would be a low scoring one, the lone goal of the first half came to Dorwin George in the 7th. However, Lodge picked up the pace in the second half of play, with Rasheed Evans being the first to score in the 38th, and George added another to his tally a minute later. The 42nd and 44th saw goals from Marcus Bamfield and Curt Edwards respectively, before the pressure got the better of Marian, resulting in an own goal.
The remainder of goals came in quick succession, leaving Marian stunned and with a nine-goal deficit.
The final game swung in favour of President’s College when they met with St. Mary’s. Edran Stephen in the 15th and Vernon Lawson in the 64th were responsible for PC’s two, while St. Mary’s lone reply came from Jaheim Harsham in the 30th.
The Petra- organized Milo Under-18 tournament will continue this weekend at the Ministry of Education Ground.
