AAG kicks off historic Adidas deal through extensive gear distribution

The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) on Friday received its first shipment of Adidas products under a landmark four-year partnership agreement signed with Adidas in 2025.
The shipment, which includes performance footwear such as spikes and training sneakers, was officially distributed to athletes and clubs during a simple presentation ceremony held at the Guyana Olympic Association Headquarters at Block XXX, Plantation Lililendaal, East Coast Demerara.
President of the Athletics Association of Guyana, Sheryl Hermonstine, described the arrival of the products as an important step forward for local athletics development.

“On behalf of the Athletics Association of Guyana, I wish to express our sincere gratitude to Adidas for honouring the partnership agreement signed in 2025. Today, in 2026, this commitment has become a reality as we receive the first consignment of performance gear – sneakers, running shoes, and spikes – for our athletes,” Hermonstine said.
She noted that the partnership goes beyond the distribution of sporting equipment.
“This is more than gear; it is an investment in the future of Guyana’s track and field. As we prepare to make the first presentation to our clubs here at Olympic House, we thank Adidas for believing in our athletes and Mr Cubie Seegobin for being instrumental in the process and standing with us as we develop champions in Guyana,” she added.

Meanwhile, AAG General Secretary James Cole explained that the agreement provides substantial in-kind support over the four-year period.
According to Cole, the association will receive US$300,000 worth of athletic products during the first and fourth years of the agreement, including footwear and training apparel. In years two and three, the value of the products supplied will total US$250,000 annually.
Part B of the agreement is geared toward youth development, with the association set to receive US$20,000 worth of training apparel for young and developing athletes attached to various clubs, especially those that are newly formed or expanding their programmes.
“This section is particularly designed to support young athletes who are now entering the programme and need the necessary gear to compete and train effectively,” Cole explained.

The agreement also contains a performance-based incentive structure linked to podium finishes at major international championships.
Under the arrangement, the association will receive US$25,000 if a Guyanese athlete wins Olympic gold, US$15,000 for silver, and US$10,000 for bronze. At the World Outdoor Championships, the bonuses are set at US$15,000 for gold, US$10,000 for silver, and US$8,000 for bronze.
For podium finishes at the World Indoor Championships, the association stands to earn US$10,000 for gold, US$8,000 for silver, and US$7,000 for bronze.
