Annandale, New Campbellville claim secondary schools tape-ball cricket titles

Annandale Secondary and New Campbellville Secondary emerged champions of two secondary schools’ tape-ball cricket competitions held during Guyana’s Independence celebrations, with both teams securing victories in their respective finals last week.
Annandale Secondary captured the Independence Cup on May 26 after defeating Covent Garden Secondary in the final played on the Sports Hall tarmac. Chasing 59 for victory, Annandale reached 61-3 to seal the title and earn the championship trophy and medals.

New Campbellville Secondary won the International Import and Supplies-sponsored Inter-Secondary Schools Tape-Ball Cricket Competition after overcoming Bishops’ High School in the final on May 27

Nathan Chaterpaul led the successful run chase with 34 runs, while Vishan Kalpoo claimed 2-23 for Covent Garden. Earlier, Covent Garden posted 58-3 after being sent in to bat, with Shawn Hussein top-scoring with 31. Matthew Persaud was the pick of the bowlers for Annandale with 2-19.
Adams was named Player of the Competition, while the trophies and medals were donated by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
Meanwhile, New Campbellville Secondary won the International Import and Supplies-sponsored Inter-Secondary Schools Tape-Ball Cricket Competition after overcoming Bishops’ High School in the final played at the National Park tarmac on May 27.

Batting first, Bishops’ High School scored 58-4, with Aryan Persaud making 27 runs. Shahid Sukhai claimed 3-29 for New Campbellville.
In reply, New Campbellville reached 61-2 to secure victory. Lakhan Ganesh top-scored with 38, while Andrew Narine took 2-29 for Bishops’. Makhaya Jones was named the competition’s Most Valuable Player.
Covent Garden Secondary also won a second Independence Trophy competition sponsored by the minister within the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Steven Jacobs.
The two events were coordinated by James “Uprising” Lewis, who expressed gratitude to International Import and Supplies Chief Executive Officer Joe Jagmohan, Minister Jacobs and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport for their support.
Lewis said the next schools’ tape-ball cricket tournament is scheduled for June 13, following the completion of CXC examinations, pending sponsorship arrangements.
