Another cyclist struck down

The roads in Guyana are becoming more and more dangerous as the time goes by. Another local cyclist has been struck down by a motor vehicle while training.

According to information gathered, the cyclist has been identified as Nigel Duguid who rides for team Gillette Evolution. Duguid was struck by a motor car while

training in the vicinity of Conversation Tree, Rupert Craig Highway, East Coast Demerara on Wednesday.

As a result of the accident, Duguid suffered a fractured forearm and several lacerations about the body, forcing him into surgery.

When contacted, Duguid said he will be back in a month or two and as it relates to the accident, the matter has been resolved.

Back in On November 16, 2016, fellow Evolution rider, Raul Leal, for the second time in his career, was one of two men involved in a collision which left him hospitalized. Leal collided with another motorcyclist along the West Ruimveldt Front Road as he was heading to a ‘wake house’ in South Ruimveldt close to his home at about 21:15h. The young cyclist suffered injuries to his back, face as well as a broken right arm and toes on his right foot and is still off the saddle.

Both riders have been exceptional and prospects for the future of cycling with much excitement surrounding their talents.

The entire cycling body is urging road users to be more vigilant and pay special attention to the athletes as well as every other cyclist, pedestrian and fellow drivers.
