The Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH) will light up this weekend as it is being treated to the 3×3 Antilles Under-18 basketball competition.

While the focus will be on the 3×3 basketball action, the weekend’s schedule organised by the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) also incorporates seminars so as to build the players’ skill and character.
Speaking on the level of competition, GABF President Nigel Hinds gave insight into the participating countries and went as far as to reveal the purpose of the tournament.
“We’re playing against some small islands in this basketball event of which we’ll have eight countries coming into Guyana. Those countries comprise of Antigua, Aruba, Barbados, Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, St Lucia and Dominica. It’s a youth tournament that seeks to expand and energise persons’ interest in basketball using the 3-on-3 format,” the GABF President explained.
He went on to express his gratitude to Banks for its longstanding support of the sport.
”We’re grateful to the flagship sponsor beyond the International Basketball Federation (IBF), this being Banks DIH, who have over the years been very generous to basketball and other sport disciplines in Guyana. I recall being here 10 months ago for the launching of Mecca and Banks supported that event, which I think was part of the catalyst to Guyana becoming the Caribbean basketball men’s champions,” Hinds stated.
Furthermore, the beverage company’s Communication Manager, Troy Peters cited the Federation’s hard work and success as one of the reasons why the beverage entity continued to support the sport discipline.
“We’ve seen the success of the Guyana men’s basketball team and we’ve seen the 3 on 3 where they were successful, so to host an event at this level and the recent Caribbean junior tournament, it really shows that the Basketball Federation is on top of its game. So, when Nigel called on us, we were ready to assist the Federation,” Peters noted.
Aside from the Federation’s youth leadership seminar which is slated for Friday evening and Saturday morning, the 3×3 action will bounce off from 14:00h on Saturday and Sunday, with the Guyanese male and female teams comprising Akeem Crandon, Andrew Johnson, Nigel Bowen, Shamar France, Saffiya Greene, Lydia Roberts, and Roschelle Campbell hoping to keep the winners’ cup on local shores.
