Arrest warrants issued for 21 COVID-19 guideline violators

Senior Magistrate Leron Daly issued 21 arrest warrants on Friday for a group of COVID-19 guideline violators who failed to appear in court.
The matters were called at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and all 21 of the persons who were charged for breach of restrictions on social activities were no show.
When the cases were called on Friday, each person’s name was called thrice by the court’s orderly inside and outside of the court but no one answered the call.
Arrests warrants were therefore issued for Eric Moses; Akisha Forester; Natalie Cush; Jason Bacchus; Elizabeth Payne; Aaliyah Harding; Mark Jones; Lisa Smith; Faith Bacchus, Sarah Tucker; Selidyn Prescott; Abiola Lackno; Abiki Moses; Shania Carter; Tiffany Anthony; Roger James; Mark Blackman; Carl Adams; Tanesa Joseph; Tasha Payne and Janenda Singh.
The prosecution is contending that ranks of the Joint Services were patrolling after curfew time to ensure that night clubs and bars were closed when they noticed that while the gate of Kairos Bar at Charlotte Street, Georgetown, was closed, loud and continuous noise was coming from the inside.
As such, ranks cordoned off the club and knocked on the club’s door for about ten minutes.
When the club’s door was opened, ranks saw the defendants inside the club parting. As such, they were all arrested and released on station bail pending their court appearance. However, their failure to make the court appearance led to the arrest warrants being issued. The case will continue on June 14. (G15)
