Badly decomposed body buried before being identified

Two days after the body of a male was discovered floating on the eastern bank of the Demerara River in the vicinity of the Tiger Bay area, it was buried without identification.
A Police source explained that investigators were waiting to see if someone would identify the body, but the body had to be buried due to the advanced state of decomposition and the damage done by vultures.
Also, a statement from the Police Force stated that an autopsy was done on the body at the Memorial Gardens Mortuary by Dr Nehaul Singh, who opined that the cause of death was undetermined.
Samples were then taken from the remains for DNA testing before it was buried.
On Thursday last at about 12:15h, Police said they received an anonymous call at the Brickdam Police Station, reporting that a body was seen floating on the eastern bank of the Demerara River in the vicinity of the Tiger Bay area.
The scene was visited by Police ranks within the division, where the body of a male was seen badly decomposed and his foot, head, and hand appeared to be eaten or rotten.
The body was at the time clad in grey three-quarter short pants when fished out of the river.
