The start of the 2017 season of badminton will get underway as the Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) once again collaborates with tournament sponsors, GUMDAC Music for the Annual GUMDAC Open Doubles Tournament.
The tournament is billed for February 1 and 3 at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, a change that sees it moving from the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Homestretch Avenue where it was hosted last year.
According to a release from President of the GBA, Gokarn Ramdhani, the competition will run from 18:00h to 21:00h on both days.
The tournament will be played in the Men’s and Ladies Doubles and Mixed Doubles. All players are asked to start training for this tournament which has been running for the last four years.
Additionally, prospective participants are advised that entries close on January 30.
In the 2016 edition of the competition, the Ramdhani siblings dominated the competition as they have been doing in the sport in recent times. In the Men’s Doubles Final, Junior Players Narayan Ramdhani & Jonathan Mangra defeated the Senior Players Darell Carpenay and Marlon Chung: 21-16, 21-19 to take the Championship while in the Ladies Doubles Finals, Junior Players Priyanna Ramdhani & Siya Persaud defeated Ayanna Wickham-Watson and Emelia Ramdhani: 21-12, 21-8 to take the Championship.
