Bandits injured after crashing getaway motorcycle following Mahaica robbery

Two bandits are now receiving medical attention at the Enmore Regional Hospital after reportedly crashing their getaway motorcycle following a robbery in the early hours of Saturday morning. The robbery, according to Police, took place at about 00:05h on Saturday at Unity, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 32-year-old businesswoman was in her shop when two men – one of whom was armed with a firearm – approached her and demanded cash. The men reportedly searched through drawers and other areas of the shop for money. During this time, the victim managed to run out of the shop, and in an attempt to stop her, one of the bandits discharged a round in her direction, causing her to faint. However, after committing the act, the suspects attempted to flee the scene on their motorcycle, but they were pursued by public-spirited citizens along with Police ranks. During the pursuit, they reportedly collided with a motor car and were apprehended by the ranks.
A 21-year-old male from Sophia, Greater Georgetown, and a 20-year-old male from Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara (ECD), were taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where they are being treated for multiple injuries.
Meanwhile, the victim was also taken to the medical facility, where she was treated and discharged.
