Bandits invade birthday party, rob invitees

A birthday celebration turned tragic after three bandits, one of whom was armed with a handgun, stormed the party and robbed several persons including the birthday boy.
The incident reportedly occurred around 02:30h on Sunday morning at Lot 179 National Walk, Triumph Village, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Based on reports received, the birthday boy, Mohammed Nazim Wahab, threw a party on the eve of his birthday, on Friday evening, and invited his family, relatives and friends to partake.
However, after midnight, a group of five was still consuming alcoholic beverages as the music system blasted.
A few hours later, three males, who had their faces tied with rags to conceal their identities, entered Wahab’s premises by drilling a hole through the fence. One of the perpetrators was carrying a silver revolver.
The trio confronted the men who were in the yard and instructed them to lay face down on the ground as they were relieved of their cash and cellular phones.
Wahab, who runs an autobody shop, had about $100,000 and his iPhone 7 snatched from him while his younger brother, a businessman, was relieved of a cellular phone.
Meanwhile, 26-year-old Anil Dhaniram, a mechanic of Mon Repos, ECD, was robbed of his mobile phone, a Samsung J2, and another mechanic, 39-year-old Rasheed Alli, who lives at the Wahab residence, was also relieved of his cellular phone.
Additionally, 20-year-old Rosita Figueredo, who is said to also reside at the Wahab residence, was robbed of her Samsung J7 cellular phone.
Guyana Times understands that during the robbery, the younger Wahab put up a resistance and a struggle ensued between him and one of the bandits.
In retaliation, the man who was armed with the gun discharge three shots in the air, thus resulting in the victims scampering to safety.
The armed men then made good their escape through a gate on the Western side of the premises.
As they ran out of the Wahab’s yard and headed towards the Eastern direction on foot, the older Wahab gave chase and managed to follow the trio into Good Hope, ECD, then lost them
According to the police, no one was injured and no spent shells were found but ranks discovered one warhead at the scene of the crime.
Commander of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) Sub-division C (East Coast Demerara), Royston Andries-Junor, when contacted by Guyana Times on Sunday confirmed the incident and noted that investigations are currently underway. (Kristen Macklingam)
