The Barbadians and Trinidadians continued to show dominance in this Colonial Medical Insurance Women’s Super50 Cup, with contrasting victories. In their respective matches, they totally outplayed their opponents with great ease. The encounter at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara, saw Barbados racking up 334-3 in 50 overs against the Afy Fletcher-led Windward Islands team.
Deandra Dottin led the charge with a 50-ball unbeaten 94 that included 15 fours and two sixes. Birthday girl Hayley Matthews hit a classical 91 from 113 balls, batting for 128 minutes hitting 13 fours and one six. Kycia Knight scored 81 from 106 as the trio missed out on well-deserved centuries. However, it was sufficient to blow away Windwards for 93 all out in 28.3 overs.
Bowling for the Bajans, fast bowler Shamilia Connell had 3-36 in 10 overs while Hayley Matthews and Shakira Selman had two wickets each in their complete team performance. In the other fixture at the Georgetown Cricket Club Bourda, Trinidad Divas finished before lunch bowling out Leeward Island for 76 in 25.1 overs. Spinner, Leandra Ramdeen did the damage for the Trinidadian with 4-12 in 6.2 overs. Anisa Mohammed had 2-15.
In reply, the ladies in red ended on 79-4 in 17 overs; Felicia Walter opening the innings and remained unbeaten on 32 form 50 balls batting 80 minutes. The matches will continue on Thursday, March 21 – Guyana and Leeward Islands at Enmore; Trinidad and Tobago will meet Windward Islands at Everest; and Barbados will meet Jamaica at the Georgetown Cricket Club.
