Batsmen must make sure Amazon Warriors cross the line, says Hetmyer

The Guyana Amazon Warriors suffered a 26-run defeat against arch-rivals Trinbago Knight Riders on Wednesday evening in Queen’s Park Oval, Trinidad. This defeat means the Warriors are at the bottom of the table after five matches, recording three defeats and only one win.

Captain Shimron Hetmyer noted that he took full responsibility for what occured against TKR, but he also said it was important for batsmen to cross the line.
“Sometimes these things happen, I take full responsibility, as a captain I should’ve taken the team home, but it’s a learning curve. I’m fine, will put some ice on it [on his injury], get ready for the next game. We are taking it one game at a time, not looking too far ahead. Lot of learning from here, as batters, myself included, we have to make sure we cross the line,” Hetmyer said, at the post match, as transcribed by cricbuzz.
Meanwhile, TKR skipper Kieron Pollard credited the TKR fans for their overwhelming support. He also added that this win was important, while describing TKR’s effort as a team performance.
“They deserve a victory tonight. They were the 12th man for us and thanks for the support [on the crowd tonight]. We spoke in the dressing room, we have not been playing well, but the guys wanted it badly. Total team effort, finally got the win at home. Hopefully, we can go and look back on what we can do better and prepare for our games at the Brian Lara stadium coming up. Well played to the guys, [Akeal] Hosein coming back and showing his mettle after being hit for those three sixes and [Sunil] Narine is a joy for any captain to have in the side. And loved the intent from [Colin] Munro, we have spoken about the intent and he showed it today,” Pollard explained.
Narine, who was the player of the match for his impressive figures of 2-9 in four overs, reflected on the match. He said: “Just build a partnership and take it as deep as possible for Pollard to come and execute what he does best. Set up the game in the powerplay and then ask the spinners to do their thing was the talk during the innings break. Whatever the team needs, I try to deliver. Thanks to the supporters, we are not winning games, but your support is needed.”
Warriors will be in action on Sunday, September 18 against Barbados Royals from 10:00h in Trinidad and Tobago.
