“Be fathers your children will be proud of” – GDF ranks told
As the world celebrates Father’s Day, the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Friday paid tribute the fathers among its troops.
Senior officers of the Force presented Fathers’ Day hampers to several of the fathers, at the Force’s various Bases around the country.
During presentations at the GDF’s headquarter – Base Camp Ayanganna at Thomas Lands, Georgetown, Quartermaster General, Colonel Godfrey Bess lauded the soldiers for the challenging task balancing their two important roles.
“I congratulate you today on behalf of the Chief-of Staff, officers and ranks of the Force. As military fathers you and I face tremendous challenges in balancing our roles in service to our nation and also in being fathers to our children. Yet, despite those challenges we soldier on,” he said.
Bess underscored that though the Force may sometimes cause the military fathers to be away and miss important milestones, it is important that they see every moment they spend with their children as special.
“Many times, we might not be present physically to witness the birth of our children, or take them to school, play games with them, or assist them with school work. Often, we do not spend as much time with our children and may miss important activities such as their birthday, school sports and so on,” he said, while adding “Today, I urge you all to take whatever time you have away from your military duties to be there for your child or children.”
The army General further told the ranks that GDF will continue to support them as they grow so that they can become the good citizens Guyana needs and fathers of whom their children will always be proud.
The GDF has extended congratulations to and is celebrating all the fathers of Guyana.
