Bishoo gets Digicel’s Youth Cricket Series rolling in Berbice
Digicel Youth Cricket Series Ambassador Devendra Bishoo surprised the students of Berbice High School by kicking off phase one of the series. More than 300 schools across the country will be vying for a chance to win a weekend coaching session with the best the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) has to offer, the communication giants stated in a release to the media on Monday.
“As of April 16, the public will have a chance to vote for the school they want to see benefit from specialized training through the Digicel Youth Cricket Series”, the Digicel release has detailed.

Now in its second year, the programme has been expanded to include/allow more children to participate in the high school training. One registered high school in Guyana will be announced as the winner of the Digicel Youth Cricket Series coaching session, which will be organized by Digicel and CPL in June/July. The general public will also be allowed to vote for the school which they deem to be most deserving of the coaching session. To vote, persons can use this link www.digicelguyana.com/cplyouthseries
Over four hundred (400) students across the region will participate in this year’s programme, and this is a significant increase from last year’s numbers.
“Youth engagement is a big focus for Digicel, and with this programme, we believe that schools all across Guyana will jump in on the opportunity to win that coaching session for their school. We figured the best way to kick off this series is with a surprise visit to the school, and we are happy that the students of the Berbice High School were overjoyed with this visit.
“The students at the school were thrilled and had lots of questions for Devendra Bishoo. Of course, we now need them to channel that excitement into spreading the word and voting for their school!” said Gregory Dean.
“It was a pleasure to be part of this excitement today, and I am happy to be part of it, thanks to Digicel and CPL”, said Bishoo.
Each school will have a fair chance to win the coaching session, as the votes are being calculated as a percentage of the student population. “Today meant a lot. I personally have never met a cricketer before, and it was a great opportunity for me and my school. I really liked how he encouraged students to live up to their dreams and don’t fall back, no matter what people say,” said Faith Gajadhar.
The 2018 Digicel CPL Youth Series will take place in the six competing countries: Jamaica, Barbados, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, St. Kitts & Nevis, and St. Lucia, and will provide more children the opportunity to hone their cricket skills and learn from the best talents in the game.
