Body of elderly woman found on WCD embankment

The lifeless body of a 64-year-old woman was discovered at the corner of a road at Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara (WCD) on Friday.
Dead is Dhangajie Umraoe, also known as “Jamella”.
Reports revealed that the woman’s body was found hours after she had left a friend’s home. This newspaper was told that on Thursday, Umraoe left her Meten-Meer-Zorg home at about 17:00h to visit her friend, who lives a few houses away.
It was reported that the woman suffers from hypertension and high cholesterol and would frequent the friend’s home to test her pressure.
Umraoe’s friend, whom she visited before she died, said that the woman arrived at her home and requested that she assist in testing her pressure.
She related that shortly after, Umraoe left indicating that she was heading home. This was the last time Umraoe was seen alive.
This newspaper was told Umraoe lives alone. However, at about 05:00h on Friday morning, Umraoe’s body was discovered on the parapet of Third Street, Meten-Meer-Zorg.
Police revealed that a bag with the woman’s blood pressure testing kit was found near her body. She was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital, WCD, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Parlor awaiting a post-mortem examination. While no marks of violence were seen on her body, Police have nonetheless launched an investigation.
