Camptown FC receives lawnmower, lights, support from Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sport

Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr on Saturday handed over a lawnmower to Camptown Football Club, strengthening the club’s ability to maintain the Campbellville Community Ground.
The presentation was made during a simple ceremony on the ground, where Camptown FC President Selwyn Robertson thanked the Minister and the Ministry for the continued support. In addition to the lawnmower, the club has also benefited from recently installed lights at the facility.
Ramson said the donation formed part of the Government’s ongoing relationship with residents and communities in Campbellville, Bel Air, Prashad Nagar, Sophia and surrounding areas. He noted that the partnership had been built over time through trust and continued investment in community sport.

According to the Minister, 24 grounds in Georgetown have been upgraded through landfill, tilling, ploughing and levelling works, with several also receiving fences, pavilions and lighting. He said those improvements are aimed at giving communities better spaces for sport and recreation.
Ramson also pointed to the Ministry’s push for street football, explaining that it helps keep players active during extended rainy periods when regular football can be affected. He said Camptown’s story remained an important one because of the club’s proud history and past success at a high level.
The Minister praised the club’s leadership for its support of the Ministry and Government, adding that Camptown had made strong progress in a short period. He described the club as a strong football brand with the potential to grow further.
However, Ramson urged the club and its players to take responsibility for the upkeep of the ground. He said the lawnmower was being handed over fully to the club but stressed that the facility must be kept in good condition.
He also encouraged the footballers to take pride in small acts of discipline, including helping to clean and maintain the ground. Ramson said discipline remains a key difference between good players and great players, both in sport and in life.
Camptown committee member and former Club President Troy Mendonca also expressed appreciation to the Minister for the assistance and requested further support for the facility. He asked for two additional lights on each post, as well as a small washroom facility, noting that the club would continue to play its part in developing and maintaining the ground.
Ramson said while the occasion was small and ceremonial, it was still important because it represented another step in the continued partnership between the Government, the community and the sporting fraternity.
