Captains upbeat about Berbice-Demerara clash at Bourda today – Essequibo, Select under-19 to meet at Everest

GCB Senior Female 50-over tournament…

The exciting Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) senior female inter-county 50-over tournament will continue today, February 5 with two matches across the capital city, Georgetown.
Fresh from victories in the second round, Berbice and Demerara will settle their dispute at the Georgetown Cricket Club, Bourda in a match scheduled to start from 10:00h. Meanwhile, the GCB Select Under-19 and Essequibo will be eying their first victory when they face off at the Everest Cricket Club.
With rain washing out the first-round clash of the 50-over leg, the third-round clashes will be important for each team, especially Berbice and Demerara. The four captains of the respective teams took the time off to speak to this reporter on the eve of their matches. Demerara Captain Akaze Thompson told Guyana Times Sport that each individual was focused on playing their respective roles. “As long as we play and work together as a team, the task will be easy,” Thompson told this reporter.
Furthermore, she disclosed that Berbice have the strongest bowling attack and the Demerara batters are focused on getting runs. “If we bowl first, our bowlers are capable of restricting Berbice to a low total,” Thompson related. “As the captain, I’m just looking for the girls to go out, give 100 per cent and enjoy the game while having fun.”
The Essequibo Captain, Lisa Charles told this reporter that her team would eying victory. “We as a group will be looking to work harder,” Charles stated.
The Essequibo team will be aiming to improve in all departments and will be looking to upset the Select Under-19 team. The Lisa Charles-led team that consists of Under-17 players are prepared to showcase an improved performance.
West Indies selectee and the GCB Under-19 Select Captain, Shabika Gajnabi told Guyana Times Sport that her team would be seeking to improve much on their batting come today at Everest against a jaded Essequibo team. (Brandon Corlette)
