Carpenter jailed for ganja trafficking

Forty-year-old Robert Bhagnauth was sentenced to three years in prison and fined $30,000 on Friday after admitting to having cannabis in his possession.
Bhagnauth was hauled before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where he confessed to the charge which stated that he, on March 6, 2019, at Kettley Street, Charlestown, Georgetown, had in his possession 12 grams of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.
The prosecution’s case stated that on March 6 at about 18:00h, police were on patrol duties in the area when they observed Bhagnauth acting in a suspicious manner. As a result, the father of three, who was wearing a grey haversack on his back was subjected to a search by the ranks.
During the search, a black plastic bag containing leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis was unearthed.
Bhagnauth was arrested and taken into Police custody where the ganja was weighed in his presence and amounted to 12 grams.
In court on Friday, the unrepresented Bhagnauth calmly exited the courtroom after the prison sentence was handed down.
