“Not only have your efforts been a tremendous support, it is through your leadership, initiative and enthusiasm that we are able to mark success in all aspects of development for Guyana. Specifically, in the area of disaster risk management, volunteers have been at the forefront of risk assessments, community preparedness initiatives, institutional strengthening and even at the highest levels you have played important roles in policy development,” the Prime Minister told the team of young people.
He further stated that over the years, they have braved the elements in the roughest of terrains and the harshest of conditions to bring relief to those most in need during hazard impact such as floods.
This year more than ever, he noted that the volunteers have demonstrated much enthusiasm in the fight against COVID-19.

Director General of CDC, Lieutenant Colonel Kester Craig noted that the volunteers are being “recognised for their commitment, discipline, and tireless contributions in advancing disaster risk management in Guyana.”
He noted that despite the challenges of 2020, there was a continued desire to serve others even at great personal risks.
