The Windward Islands have ended their campaign in the CG Insurance Women’s Super50 Cup on a high note, having defeated the Leeward Islands by 151 runs in the fifth-place play-off at Providence.
The Windward Islands posted 241-8 in 50 overs. In reply, the Leeward Islands managed only 90 in 21.5 overs.
Having batted first, the Windward Islands reached 241-8, with Carena Noel hitting an unbeaten 72 from 61 balls in a score that included nine fours. Windward Islands lost half of their side with the score on 98, with only Janniellea Glasgow scoring 22 runs in the top five.
Qiana Joseph, batting at seven, and Noel, batting at eight, added 50 runs for the seventh wicket, while the opening stand yielded 57 runs. Amanda Edwards was the pick of the bowlers, with 3-30 in ten overs, while Rozel Liburd had 3-34 in ten overs.
In reply, Tracy Byron led a collective bowling effort as Leewards managed only 90, with Shawnisha Hector scoring 24. Tiffany Thorpe chipped in with 20, but it was insufficient for the Leewards to chalk up their first win of the season.
Byron ended with good figures of 3-32 from 4.5 overs, while Glasgow, Peal Etienne and Qiana Joseph each had two wickets.
The final of the tournament will be played from 9:30h at Providence, EBD, Guyana. Barbados and Jamaica are locking horns.
