Jailed: Vellon Tobin, also known as “Bull Eye”

A 25-year-old labourer from Charity Back Street, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) has been sentenced to two years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to a simple larceny charge. Vellon Tobin, also known as “Bullseye”, appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir at the Charity Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Tobin was charged with simple larceny, contrary to Section 164 of the Criminal Offences Act, Chapter 8:01. The charge alleged that he stole rice and sugar, property belonging to Dindyal Narine, a businessman of Charity, Essequibo Coast.
The offence was reportedly committed between May 18 and May 19, 2026, at Charity Back Street, Essequibo Coast. During the court proceedings, Magistrate Mohabir presided via Zoom. The charge was read to Tobin, and he was not initially required to enter a plea because the case was being heard on indictment. The prosecutor subsequently applied for the matter to be dealt with under the Administration of Justice Act. The application was granted by the court, after which Tobin pleaded guilty to the offence. Following his guilty plea, Magistrate Mohabir sentenced Tobin to two years’ imprisonment.
