Cheddi Jagan Memorial Windball tournament bowls off in fine style
The action continued in the Cheddi Jagan Memorial Schools Windball Cricket Competition with over ten matches taking place on an action packed day in the male and female categories.
The four-day competition is being hosted in memory of the late President Cheddi Jagan, and is being played in the former politician’s birth month.
The finale will be hosted on Sunday evening at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue.
On Friday, in the female category, Annandale Secondary were able to post 63-3, with Avril Prashad top scoring with 28, while Tricia Singh bagged 2-4. In return, Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary raced to 70-0, as Tricia Singh showed her all-round skills with a brilliant 34.
Goed Fortuin Secondary were able to post a healthy 108-0, with Ashley Yard scoring 68 and Celine Liverpool 34. Covent Garden Secondary, in reply, ended on 109-1. Mikhaila Agrippa with 40 and Finella Moore with 36 led the side to victory.
Carnegie School of Home Economics missed the 100 mark as they composed 99-2, with Mellisa Persaud scoring 56 and Grace Fung-Fook a quick-fire 26. But that wasn’t enough to deter Soesdyke Secondary, who chased down the score with
ease and ended on 103-3.
Camille’s Institute for Business & Science Studies were able to post a healthy 132-0 as Stacy Flores guided the team with 80 and Ameny Singh chipping in with 34. In reply, Tucville Secondary made light work of the mammoth total, as they ended on 136-1, Uizan London scoring 30.
Needing a second chance at redemption, Queenstown Secondary registered 79-0, with Kellisa Cozier top scoring with 48. They, however, could not defend that score, as Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary chased down the total and scored 84-0, with Tamara Gill leading with 48 and Tricia Singh 28.
Carnegie School of Home Economics posted 121-1 as Grace Fung Fook led the way with 56 and Tina Chappelle chipped in 30. Covent Garden Secondary, however, chased down the total and ended on 127-0, with Mahaila Agippa scoring 66 (9x6s) and Finella Moore 52.
Carmel Secondary posted 95-1, with Siana Abrams scoring 70. Saint Mary’s Secondary fell short of that total, scoring 94-2 despite Zabeiah Green’s 48.
In the final fixture of the day, Queenstown Secondary scored 91-1, with Kellisa Cozier’s 58 leading, while Camille Institute for Business & Science Studies chased down the total and scored 97-1, with Amancy Singh (44) Stacy Flores (38) leading the way.
Male category
In the male category, Beterverwagting Secondary were able to score 119-0, as Tomindea Singh top scored with 44 and Kapeldev Phagoo chipped in with 30. In reply Camille’s Institute for Business & Science Studies could muster only 108-0, as they fell short despite John Pillay’s 48 and Alex Arinda’s 42.
Vreed-en-Hoop Secondary posted a challenging 87-2, and Carnegie School of Home Economics could muster only 65-3, as they were restricted in the latter overs due to tight bowling.
Goed Fortuin Secondary, doing better than their female counterparts, posted 116-1, with Satesh Persaud on 72 leading the way. In the end they were able to defend their total, as Soesdyke Secondary could score only 75-3.
Carnegie School of Home Economics posted 113-3, with Kwame Goodluck on 52 and Abdool George on 30; but it wasn’t enough to prevent East Ruimveldt Secondary from chasing down the total and ending on 118-2. Q Wallace scored 54.
In the final match of the day for the males, Central High School made 111-5, as Deonarine Tiwari top scored with 47. Akeem Charles bagged 2-26. In response Carmel Secondary led the way with 115-3, as Rawle Singh’s 44 did the trick, despite D. Tiwari’s 2-25.
