Chinkoo, Singh star for MMZ in New York National 40 overs

The Guyanese duo of Looknauth Chinkoo and Gajanand Singh had excellent performances in the New York National 40 overs competition. Playing for Meten-Meer-Zorg (MMZ) over the weekend, Chinkoo, a former national youth player, slammed an unbeaten 103, while Singh scored 53 as MMZ stormed to a 5-wicket win against Elite Cricket Club at Whitestone 1.

The Elite Cricket Club won the toss and opted to bat first, scoring 220-5 in 40 overs. Guyanese Renwick Batson scored an unbeaten 66 from 72 balls, while Marlon Persaud supported with 48. Randy Persaud, Looknauth Chinkoo, Ebran Ragman, Andy Mohammed and Rajiv Deonarine each picked up one wicket for MMZ.
In reply, MMZ reached the total of 221 in 31.1 overs, with Chinkoo’s top-class innings being decorated with 11 sixes and one four. His “player of the match” knock of 103 came off 60 balls.
Singh’s 54 came off 39 balls, and was decorated with six sixes and three fours. Michael Sultan with 2-33 and Marlon Persaud with 2-39 had decent outings with the ball in a losing effort.
Earlier that weekend, MMZ coasted to an opening victory in the New York National 30-overs with a win against Columbia Cricket Club. Rahul Sharma’s 32 took Columbia to 90 all out in 25.1 overs. Avi Dhanpaul took 3-4 and Samuel Raghubir claimed 3-10 in six overs for the dominant MMZ.

In response, MMZ cruised to 92-1 in 9.1 overs, with Azurdeen Mohammed scoring an unbeaten 48 from 28 balls, including five sixes. He was supported by Keith Edie who made 28.
