During the engagement, chamber representatives outlined their members’ key areas of interest and technical capabilities.
In response, Edghill outlined Guyana’s public procurement framework and explained the tendering procedures required for international companies seeking to participate in national development projects.
He stressed that the Government of Guyana remains open to integrating additional reliable suppliers and contractors into the local market. He said expanding the pool of vendors is essential to maintaining strict quality standards and delivering maximum value on public infrastructure projects executed for the Guyanese people.
The Minister also reminded the delegation that participation in public works projects must strictly adhere to local statutory requirements. He highlighted the highly competitive nature of public works bidding in Guyana and pointed to the Procurement Act of 2003, which provides the framework for Government procurement and promotes transparency, fairness and accountability.
Edghill also encouraged the delegation to closely monitor Guyana’s upcoming development plans and procurement opportunities.
“You are now in Guyana at a good time. We [Government] are finalising the budget for 2027. Follow along closely and from there, you will have a clear idea of how to best invest and play a meaningful role in Guyana’s development. Many delegations visit, but it is critical to move from conversations to formal proposals to determine how your expertise aligns with what Guyana needs,” he said.
