The Minister of Sport, whose portfolio includes the upkeep and management of community grounds, visited Bush Lot, WCB on February 13 and interacted with residents on a number of issues affecting them. He soon discovered that one of their main concerns was the issue of management of the affairs of the community sports ground.
He was then briefed on the previous committee that had managed the ground from 2008 to 2015, and was assailed with concerns relative to proper consultation with the residents on getting work done at the ground, and transparency and accountability issues were also ventilated.
After 2015, the ground had fallen under management of the NDC, and the same members who had previously managed the ground selected themselves to continue doing so without any consultation with the residents. Those members were councillors of the NDC. During the past five years, the NDC did very little, if anything, for the enhancement and development of the Bush Lot sports ground.
Upon hearing all of this, the Minister made a commitment to the residents, before whom he outlined his plans and pledged his support towards development of the ground and facility. At that point, Ramson Jr ordered that residents of the village elect, on February 21, persons to be responsible for managing the affairs of the sports ground.
The Honourable MP Faizal Jaffarally and Region 5 Vice Chairman Rion Peters chaired, monitored, and subsequently declared the results of the elections, which were attended by a large number of residents. The residents voted overwhelmingly for the undermentioned individuals to be responsible for managing the affairs of the Bush Lot Ground, WCB.
