Director General of the Public Utilities and Aviation Ministry, Alfonso De Armas on Friday morning visited the site of the new water treatment plant under construction at Bath, West Coast Berbice (WCB).
He was joined by Engineer in Charge of Foreign Funded Projects, Arshad Yacoub and Head of the Well Drilling Unit, Orin Browne.
Once completed, the plant will treat 18 million litres per day, serving residents from Kingelly to Jacoba.
Three new wells are being drilled to feed it, so source and treatment capacity come online together. The project is set for completion December 31.
The Director General put the contractors on notice that the Ministry’s policy on delayed projects will be enforced, and that liquidated damages will be applied without exception where deadlines are missed.
The Bath plant is one more plant in a coastline-wide build-out towards the Government’s commitment of treated water for every household.
