A 19-year-old resident of Number 76 Housing Scheme, Corentyne, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) lost his life on Monday morning after the car he was driving crashed into a parked truck along the Number 72 Public Road. Dead is Nathaniel Busgith, called “Joel,” unemployed, of Lot 38 Number 76 Housing Scheme. According to information received, Busgith was driving motorcar, PAP 1126, north along the southern lane of the Number 72 Public Road when he allegedly lost control of the vehicle and collided with motor lorry GAF 5822, which was parked on the western side of the roadway. The impact left the car badly mangled, and Busgith was pulled from the wreckage by public-spirited citizens and rushed to the Number 75 Regional Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Speaking with reporters, the teenager’s mother, Basmattie McDonald, recalled that her son left home shortly before the accident. “Well, this morning [Monday] he woke up and he told me, ‘Mommy, I’m going out to the road and come back,’ and he left home and he never come back,” the grieving mother said. She explained that after receiving news about the crash, she rushed to the hospital, hoping that her son survived. “…And the doctor came over and said, ‘He didn’t make it,’” McDonald recounted through tears.
The teen’s father, Imran Ali, said he was informed by a teacher who reportedly witnessed the incident that another vehicle may have contributed to the crash.
Family members described Busgith as respectful and well-known within the community. “He was a very good child. Everybody just talked about him… he would never answer you, he would never cuss nobody,” his mother said. The teenager had purchased the car about a month ago and would often use it to transport his younger sister to school. Police are continuing their investigations.
