Corrective surgeries commence on badly burnt brothers
Corentyne fire
A toddler and his four-year-old brother, who were badly burnt by fire at their home, are presently undergoing a series of surgeries overseas as the lads continue to battle for their lives.
Gansham Sohan, four, and Bisham Sohan, one, are currently patients at a hospital in Texas, where they both have undergone multiple corrective surgeries since being medevacked to the United States of America less than a week ago.
In providing an update on the lads’ conditions, Saving Hands Emergency Aid (SHEA) revealed that doctors have been administering sedative drugs to the younger Sohan due to the extent of his injuries.
Nevertheless, the non-governmental organisation further noted that both boys have been responding well to treatment even though the road to recovery is far from over, as they are expected to undergo more surgeries.
The brothers sustained severe burns about their bodies following an incident which occurred on August 16 at their Number 48 Village, Corentyne home. The mother of the boys lit materials to drive away mosquitoes and turned her attention away for a short period of time, but by then, the older Sohan had thrown dry grass into the fire, causing it to flare up and burn both him and his brother severely.
The brothers were being treated at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where the younger Sohan was on life support, while his older sibling was in the Burn Care Unit, but due to the severity of their burns and the unavailability of the advanced treatment in the country, overseas treatment was sought.
