Preparations for the upcoming Masters World Cup in Guyana have moved another step forward, following a planning meeting between the Cricket West Indies Masters Association (CWIMA) and Government officials at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport.
The tournament, which will feature veteran cricketers from 16 nations, is scheduled to run from October 17 to November 1 at venues across Guyana.
CWIMA Chairman Raj Singh and Finance Convenor Ramdeo Kumar met with Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport Charles Ramson Jr and Minister within the Ministry Steven Jacobs in the Ministry’s boardroom to review the work completed so far and discuss the next steps needed to stage the tournament.
The discussions focused on several key areas, including the preparation and readiness of cricket grounds, television broadcast and live streaming plans, hotel accommodation, transportation, security, and the recruitment of match officials and event personnel.

The meeting also addressed the need for match referees, umpires, venue managers, liaison officers, volunteers, event staff and catering services as organisers continue to prepare for the two-week competition.
Singh said CWIMA has made strong progress in several operational areas but noted that an event of this size requires close cooperation with Government and local partners. He said the meeting helped all parties to agree on the remaining priorities as Guyana prepares to welcome teams and visitors.
Minister Ramson commended CWIMA for its planning and reaffirmed the Government’s support for the tournament. He said the Masters World Cup provides an important opportunity for Guyana to strengthen sports tourism, create economic activity and show its ability to host major international events.
Minister Jacobs also pointed to the importance of strong broadcasting and security arrangements, noting that the tournament will place Guyana before a global audience. He said Government and CWIMA are working together to ensure the necessary physical and digital systems are in place for fans locally and overseas.
During the visit, Singh presented World Cup shirts and caps to the Ministers in recognition of their continued support of master cricket over the years.
Further announcements on fixtures, participating teams and ticket availability are expected in the coming weeks.
