Cyclists bracing for R&R double this weekend

If it’s not broken, why change it.” That is probably the reason behind R&R’s continued support for the Hassan Mohamed organized cycling classics. This year marks 27 years that the company has teamed up with the National Cycling Coach to keep the athletes on two wheels busy on back to back days.
On Saturday, the wheelsmen will take to the inner circuit of the National Park where they will compete across the 11-race programme which will see the featured event in the 35 lap school boys and invitational meet.

Defending champion, Evolution’s Paul Denobrega will have his hands full with the likes of former champion and second place finished last year, Hamza Eastman, his team Cocos club mate, Jamaul John along with the Berbice bikers in Andrew Hicks and Romello Crawford.
On Sunday, the cyclists will leave the circuit and challenge the recently refurbished West Demerara road for a grueling ride with lots at stake.
The riders will be sent on their way at 08:30h from Schoonord, West Bank Demerara, a few meters right off of the Harbour bridge and will make their way to Bushy Park and back completing 40 miles. This marks a change in venue from the previous edition where the riders used the East Coast of Demerara Highway.
Again, Eastman is amongst the top contenders having won the event last year. Should Eastman fend off the highly touted competition, he could sweep the weekend on the saddle.
In his quest for the double, he will have to ward off the challenge of the inform Shaquel Agard, Geron Williams, Stephano Husbands and Christopher Holder will all be gunning to dethrone Eastman who had spent most of the 2017 season training in the United States.
The weekend double is in keeping with the sponsors’ pledge last year to continue to support the riders and help them develop in any way they possible could while also congratulated Mohammed for his continued dedication to the sport.
