The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Thursday officially commenced its Second Quarterly Fitness Competition 2026, with defending champions One Infantry Battalion and the Guyana National Reserve Female A Team beginning the defence of their respective titles.
According to the GDF, the two-day competition features 12 male teams, including one from the Guyana Police Force, and seven female teams competing for championship honours.
Base Camp Ayanganna, Base Camp Stephenson and the Guyana National Reserve have each entered two female teams in the competition.
Participants are being assessed through a series of tactical and physical challenges aimed at measuring operational readiness, endurance, teamwork and resilience.
The events include a day shoot, rope exercise, navigation exercise and casualty evacuation (Navex/Casevac), swimming, and a night shoot.
The competition continues today, with teams seeking to secure valuable points as they vie for the overall championship titles.
