Demerara demolish Essequibo to secure finale spot

Demerara crushed Essequibo in the yearly inter-county tournament in New York, to book their spot in the final against Berbice; however, rain spoilt the grand finale between the two, forcing the game to be postponed.

Akshaya Persaud top-scored with 39 and bagged one wicket

Essequibo skipper Renwick Batson won the toss and sent Demerara led by Avi Dhanpaul to bat in overcast conditions.

Kelvin Leitch had figures of 36 and 5 for 14

Demerara scored 133 for 7 in 20 overs. CGI Academy player Akshaya Persaud top-scored with 39 and was supported by Kelvin Leitch (36) and Guyana Jaguars player Vishal Singh (18). Bowling for Essequibo, Captain Batson bagged 2 for 24.
Essequibo, in reply, posted 96 all out in 16.3 overs, Mark Gomes top-scored with 25. Bowling for Demerara, Leitch bagged 5 for 14, Samuel Raghubir 2 for 16 and one wicket each for Seon Daniels and Akshaya Persaud.
The final will be played on a later date to decide the 2021 winner.
