Good Intent fire
More than a week after allegedly setting fire to DJ Magnum’s home, a medical laboratory technician was on Monday slapped with an arson charge, but in a turn of events, the popular Disc Jockey (DJ) told the court that he wishes not to proceed with the matter.
Latonya Peirce, 23, of Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo, denied allegations that she set fire to the Good Intent, West Bank Demerara dwelling house of Dorrel Romeo, popularly known as DJ Magnum, with intent to injure him on February 19. The woman appeared before Magistrate Clive Nurse at the Wales Magistrate’s Court where she was granted self-bail after Romeo chose not to give evidence in the matter.
It was only days ago that the Guyana Fire Service confirmed that the fire was the work of an arsonist. On Sunday last, fire ripped through the wooden and concrete structure and two women were seen fleeing the scene. It was said that they both shared relationships with DJ Magnum.
Reports are on the night of the fire, the two women went to the house to confront Romeo on a personal issue, but he was at a function on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway. They waited but he never showed up and out of anger, Romeo’s former girlfriend allegedly lit an object in the vicinity of the back step. The duo then fled, but their taxi driver, turned out to be a close friend of the DJ. Upon realising that something was amiss, the driver contacted the Police.
Two females – one from Winsor Forest, and the other being Peirce – were taken into custody, but only Peirce was charged at the Wales court. Guyana Times understands that Peirce was the same woman who posted a video of Romeo which went viral on social media last week. The lab technician, who left court with just under 10 relatives and friends, will make her next appearance on March 10 for a report.
On the night of the fire, Romeo had explained that his mother, who lives in the United States, was the one who contacted and informed him of the fire. He and his present fiancée had rushed to the premises only to see his house reduced to debris.
At the scene, the Police received information that two women were seen leaving the yard moments prior to the blaze.
