EBD men face larceny, B&E, felonious wounding charges

Three men from different communities on the East Bank Demerara (EBD) found themselves before the Diamond/Grove Magistrates’ Court, facing various charges stemming from separate criminal incidents.
Shafeek Alli, a 22-year-old laborer of Cow Pen Street, Eccles, EBD, was arrested on April 30 for the offense of simple larceny under Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Offense) Act Chapter 8:01. Alli, who appeared before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce on Friday, admitted guilt.
Consequently, he was fined $75,000 or faced three months imprisonment. The charge was related to theft from a 68-year-old pensioner, Eddie Jaikisun, which occurred between April 24 and April 30.
Jaybez Harrypersaud, a 20-year-old labourer of Public Road, Providence, EBD, was arrested on Wednesday in a separate incident.

He faced charges of breaking and entering and larceny under Section 229 (a) of the Criminal Law (Offense) Act Chapter 8:01. Unlike Alli, Harrypersaud pleaded not guilty when the charge was read before Senior Magistrate Scarce on Friday.
He was granted bail in the sum of $300,000 with the condition to report to the Providence Police Station every Saturday. The offense was allegedly committed against a 60-year-old housewife on April 30, on the Providence Public Road, EBD. His case was adjourned to May 28.
Lastly, Clifton Hinds, a 38-year-old unemployed man from Sarah Johanna Squatting area, EBD, was arrested on April 28, for the offense of felonious wounding under Section 57(a) of the Criminal Law (Offense) Act Chapter 8:01.
Hinds, who also appeared before Magistrate Scarce, pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum of $500,000.00. The charge stemmed from an incident involving a 29-year-old labourer, Collin Fraser, on April 5, in Sarah Johanna. Hinds’ case was adjourned to May 31. (G9)
