Western Tigers Football Club sent a strong warning to their rivals in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League after crushing the Guyana Police Force (GPF) FC 4-0 in a top-four battle on Sunday night at the National Training Centre (NTC), Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
Midfielder Michael Oie scored twice, while Mark Jhalu and Kevon Woodley added one goal each as Western Tigers produced a commanding performance against last season’s runners-up.
Jhalu opened the scoring in the 13th minute, giving Western Tigers an early advantage before the two teams entered the halftime break with the score at 1-0.
The Tigers increased the pressure after the restart, and Oie doubled their lead in the 51st minute. Woodley made it 3-0 in the 65th minute before Oie completed his brace in the 76th to seal the convincing victory.
The result underlined Western Tigers’ potential as they continue their pursuit of a place among the league’s leading teams.
Western Tigers Head Coach Jamal Pedro recently said his squad was filled with talent and that his focus was on helping the players translate that ability into strong performances on the field.
The Elite League will now pause for the FIFA international break, with competition scheduled to resume after the break ends on October 6.
