Essequibo fisherman on $75,000 bail for break and enter, larceny

Twenty-two-year-old Deodat Sumsundar, a fisherman from Walton Hall, Essequibo Coast, was granted bail on Tuesday for break and enter.

He made his first appearance before Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.

Sumsundar was charged with break and enter and larceny contrary to Section 229(a) of the Criminal Offences Act Chapter 8:01, committed on Naina Narine.

It is alleged that on December 31,2016 at Walton Hall, he stole a quantity of GTT and Digicel phone cards valued $10,000; one Samsung cell phone valued $30,000, US$350 , and $30,000 cash, a total value of $140,000, property of Narine.

The accused was placed on $75,000 and the matter was postponed to March21.
