Everest’s Nadir praises ExxonMobil GSL for Youth Clinic

As the ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League T20 (GSL) prepares for the commencement of its third season later this week, the organisation has come in for praise for its youth development work.
On Sunday last, over 40 youth cricketers benefitted from a clinic facilitated by players and coaches set to compete in the ExxonMobil GSL.
Present at the clinic was Everest Cricket Club (ECC) President Manzoor Nadir, who relished what a golden opportunity it was for the up-and-coming players.

“First, for me and our team members, and especially the young players, it’s an excellent opportunity,” Nadir told this publication exclusively. “When we talk to our young players about cricket and the heroes of the time we know, they can’t associate. Here, they are rubbing shoulders [with] – and especially young people who came up with them, like Jonathan Van Lange. So, this is a glorious opportunity.”
Emphasising the need for mental fortitude in the modern game, Nadir illustrates how the clinic will be beneficial in that aspect.
Nadir explained, “For me, that is crucial, and we don’t work enough on mindset or mental strength. That is why you see a West Indies team at 124-4 collapse to 140; you see a Guyana U19 team winning with a collapse of the other team. So, mental strength is extremely important for us; I know because I help out with what we call ‘associate members’, and many times, they know what they have to do; it’s just the brain is telling them, ‘You have to do this,’ but the muscles are going in a different direction.”

“So, all this helps to reinforce the good works the coaches have been putting into our children at all the clubs. All these lessons are reinforced at sessions like these when the international players tell them what they have won to reach where they are,” he went on to enlighten.
As such, the Everest CC boss went on to heap praise on the ExxonMobil GSL for the initiative.
Nadir gushed, “And I’m so pleased that Global Super League has seen it so fit to organise such an engagement with our youth players and some of the Global Super League stars. I commend the GSL, the organisers for this particular initiative.”
The ExxonMobil Guyana GSL will bowl off on Thursday, July 23, and run until Saturday, August 1, at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
