The Public Works Ministry has issued a final and immediate removal notice to all persons currently vending or occupying Government reserves in the Better Hope area, East Coast Demerara (ECD). The Ministry stated that despite previous notices and engagements regarding the need to clear the area to facilitate ongoing infrastructural works, several structures and vending operations remain in place. It said these continued activities amount to disregard for official instructions.

All vendors and individuals with structures, equipment, or goods on the reserve have been instructed to remove them immediately. The Ministry warned that failure to comply with the final notice will result in the reserve being cleared under standard procedures. On Friday, the Ministry also noted that it is not seeking to permanently withhold property. However, it stated that any costs associated with removal, if carried out by the Ministry, will be the responsibility of the owners. It added that in order to reclaim any seized items, owners will be required to visit the Ministry and settle the outstanding removal costs before the property is released. The Ministry also stated it will not be liable for any loss or damage during the removal process. The notice also specifically applies to Sobers’ Establishment, which the Ministry says continues to disregard previous removal directives.
It said it remains committed to the timely delivery of national infrastructure and is urging full public cooperation to ensure safety and progress.
