Fireman slapped with 3 charges of causing death by dangerous driving

A fireman was on Friday charged with three counts of causing death over the horrific accident at Kairuni Soesdyke-Linden Highway that resulted in the death of three people. He was released on a total of $900,000 bail. He was arraigned at the Diamond/Golden Grove Magistrates’ Courts.

Dead: Akese Jerome

Kevin Bizzeth of Rainbow City, Mackenzie, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), pleaded not guilty to the charges after they were read to him by Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman.
It is alleged that on May 23 he drove motor car PHH 6628 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the deaths of Antonia Henry, 87, her daughter Melina Emmanuel, 40, and her granddaughter, Akese Jerome, eight. The 39-year-old man returns to court on June 25.
Police had said motor car PHH 6628, which was being driven by Bizzeth was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road at a fast rate of speed when he lost control and collided with the left side curb of the road. The motor car then ploughed into a group of persons, all relatives, who were sitting on the side of the road on the said curb. The little girl was picked up in an unconscious state, placed into a passing vehicle, and taken to the Diamond Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Dead: Anthonia Henry

Henry and Emmanuel were also picked up in an unconscious state and placed into a passing vehicle and taken to the Mackenzie Public Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival. Other relatives, Alena Persaud and Rodwell Jerome, who were also picked up in an unconscious state, remain hospitalised. (G1)
