Free screening for persons with disabilities at Met Pride Academy

Children with disabilities will now benefit from free screening by Met Pride Academy located at Freeman Street, East La Penitence, Georgetown.
The school, which was established in March 2017, caters for persons with disabilities such as autism, dyslexia, and down syndrome, and helps parents to understand their condition.
Martel Alert, Principal of the Academy, stated, “We do what persons may call a prescreening whereby the child will come into the school, there is a questionnaire the parents would full out and we would observe the child at doing different activities… we would make a video as well. This information, the questionnaire, along with the video as well will be forwarded to the therapist in the United States…”.
Director of the Academy, Elizabeth Albert said that the feedback they are receiving from parents is phenomenal. She posited that parents are pleased to know that there is a facility that is offering to prescreen free of cost.
“We noticed that there are challenges, there are certain behavioural challenges that all of them have. Since we did the prescreening, the videos, and the questionnaires that were filled out, now we just send it over to the doctors and this is now where we are waiting to get the final diagnosis.
Meanwhile, parents who have children with disabilities are asked to take full advantage of the free screening that is been offered at the MET Pride Academy throughout the month of February.
Those who might be interested in the screening are asked to contact the academy on 2272013.
