Home News French national slapped with illegal entry charge
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan remanded a 50-year-old France national on Tuesday when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts charged for illegal entry.
Sylvie Janine Pauline Dubose denied the charge which stated that between December 15, 2019, and December 20, 2019, at Springlands, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), she entered Guyana by sea and disembarked without the consent of an immigration officer.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield stated that on January 4, 2020, the woman, who was supposedly an outgoing passenger at the Eugene F Correira Airport, was intercepted by an immigration officer, after it was observed that there was no immigration stamp in her French passport.
The prosecutor told the court that the woman was then arrested and taken to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters where a further investigation was conducted which revealed that she entered Guyana illegally via Springlands.
Further checks revealed that the woman reportedly visited Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina.
She was ordered to appear on January 13, 2020, at the Springlands Magistrate’s Court.
