The Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) has paid tribute to veteran cricket administrator Malcolm Peters on the occasion of his 90th birthday, recognising his decades of distinguished service to the development and governance of cricket in Guyana.
In a congratulatory message issued through its President, Bissoondyal Singh, the board’s executives and staff celebrated Peters’ lifelong dedication to the sport and his enduring contribution to cricket administration at both the county and national levels.

Born in Wakenaam, Essequibo, in 1936, Peters moved to Linden in 1955 to take up employment with the bauxite company. His professional journey later took him to Berbice in 1971, where he represented Bermine Cricket Club at the First Division level.
His involvement in cricket extended beyond playing, as he became increasingly engaged in the administration of the sport. His commitment and leadership eventually led to his election as President of the Berbice Cricket Board, where he played a significant role in the advancement of cricket in the county.
Peters’ experience and contribution subsequently earned him national responsibilities, including serving as vice-President of the Guyana Cricket Board from 2006 to 2009 and chairman of the National Cricket Development Committee. He also represented Guyana on several occasions at the West Indies Cricket Board.
He was also involved in the governance and constitutional development of the sport, serving on the Stakeholders Committee chaired by legendary former West Indies captain Sir Clive Lloyd. The committee contributed to the formulation of the Guyana Cricket Administration Bill, which was tabled in Parliament in 2012.
In 2021, Peters was elected National Cricket Ombudsman, a position he continues to hold. His ongoing service reflects his commitment to fairness, accountability and good governance within the sport.
At 90, Peters’ contribution to Guyana’s cricket spans generations of players, administrators and institutions. His work in cricket administration has helped shape the structures governing the sport and cemented his place in its history.
Singh, on behalf of the GCB’s executives and staff, expressed profound appreciation for Peters’ invaluable service, describing his milestone as an opportunity to celebrate not only his longevity but also a lifetime devoted to strengthening the game.
The board extended best wishes to Peters for continued good health, happiness, peace and God’s blessings, while acknowledging that his contribution and legacy will remain an important part of Guyana’s cricket history.
