GCC ladies crowned champions

Woodpecker Products Female 1st Division…

The Pizza Hut/GCC ladies were crowned champions of the Woodpecker Products Female 1st Division Outdoor Hockey league on Sunday evening as they drew their final game 1-1 against longtime rivals Woodpecker Hikers to win on points.
League MVP Sonia Jardine scored in the 13th minute of the game to give the GCC ladies the lead, however six minutes before fulltime, Hikers’ Nicolette Fernandes scored to bring the game level.
Earlier in the day GCC Spartans defeated Old Fort ladies 3-1 with Dominique de Groot scoring in the 10th minute, Sarah Klautky in 13th, Makeda Harding in the 30th while Minsodia Culpepper added her name to the scorers list in the 60th minute for Old Fort’s solitary goal.

Over in the Farfan & Mendes Males first  Division Outdoor Hockey League, the Old Fort males edged out the Saints team 5-3 at fulltime. Jason Clarke only took 4 minutes to find the back of the net for Old Fort before scoring again in the 5th, Ascofu Simon added a third in the 7th and the 14th with Christopher Low Koon making it 5 in the 51st.
Scoring for the Saints were Hilton Chester in the 31st and Yonnick Peters in the 35th and  the 57th  minute.
In the final game of the day GCC males drew 3-3 with the Hikers men to go level on points. Jamarj Assanah opened his account for the hikers three minutes into the game while Dwayne Scott drew GCC level in the 15th minute with teammate Kareem McKenzie scoring in the19th to put GCC in the lead.  However,  Andrew Stewart scored on the stroke of halftime (44th minute) to once again draw Hikers level. Shane Samuels would give Hikers a brief lead when he scored two minutes after half time (47th minute) Dwayne Scott would score in the last minute of the game (60th ) to draw the game for GCC.
Hikers are now tied at the top with GCC, however a win or even a draw will ensure that they (Hikers) win the league.
