GDF to host cross-country event on Jan 17

The Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) is expected to lock in on the development of their senior athletes in 2026, according to Assistant Treasurer of the association, Niall Stanton, during a telephone interview on Wednesday.
Stanton noted that the seniors must be made a priority in 2026. “We are not only going to focus on our junior athletes but more so on the senior athletes; a lot will be put in place for our senior athletes this year.”
However, the AAG will kick off 2026 with a cross-country event set for January 17, with Stanton highlighting the focus of the 2026 year.

“The athletics association this year, we are focusing on a lot of development not only for athletes or coaches but development in whole in terms of management, working with the clubs. Also, this year we would like to participate in every major, so the athletic association looking to have athletes qualify and participate in all major events.”
The Guyana Defence Force will host the cross country on January 17, with the exact route expected to be determined later.
